Choosing a block thickness

Thickness is the width of the wall, so pick it by what the wall has to do. The face size only changes how many blocks you lay.

  • 100 to 125 mm for internal partition walls
  • 150 to 200 mm for external walls and walls between flats
  • 225 mm for thick external, fire and sound walls

Blocks are sold in whole cubic metres, so the volume is rounded up. One 40 kg bag of joint mortar lays about 1 m³ of blocks at 2–3 mm joints.
